Department of General Psychology, University of Padova (Italy)
MAIN RESEARCH INTERESTS
Time perception
• Time perception and cognitive functions (i.e. attention and working
memory) involved in temporal processing in university students and healthy
older adults. Particular attention is dedicated to different temporal ranges
(from milliseconds to a few seconds) and on the differences between the
temporal tasks used and modalities (visual vs. auditory)
• Time perception in clinical populations such as traumatic brain injury,
Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s patients
• Evaluating the effects of emotion on time perception
• Using non-invasive brain stimulation techniques to investigate the brain
regions and networks of temporal processing
Time-based Prospective Memory
• Investigating temporal processes involved in time-based prospective
memory in healthy and clinical populations (Patients with acquired brain
injuries, Parkinson’s diseases patients)
Executive functions training
• Cognitive training for healthy and clinical older adults

DISSEMINATION
Besides conference talks, I have been invited to give seminars at the
Department of Psychology (University of Padova, Italy) and Laval University
(Québec, Canada). I was interviewed, together with Prof Peter Rendell for
the Australian journal “The Senior” in November 2011. We presented our
research on ageing and prospective memory training. In 2014, I was
interviewed by FOCUS, which is a popular Italian journal that promotes
science where I presented my studies on the effects of emotional stimuli on
time perception. I participated at the HORA “I Verbi del tempo” (2017;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSlVxJ0TaIc&t=2s) and The Brain Awareness
Week (March 2017) as an invited speaker. “Hora” was a series of
conferences on time perception from a broad prospective (i.e. physics,
psychology, anthropology etc.). I participated with a contribution titled:
“Investigating time perception in clinical populations and using
non-invasive brain stimulation techniques”. The Brain Awareness Week (BAW)
is a global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and
benefits of brain research. I gave a contribution titled: “How emotions
change our time perception”. Speaker at “La scienza in un bicchiere”
with a contribution titled “Le trame del tempo: indagine neuropsicologica
su come lo percepiamo” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA81Ms7lTrI).
Speaker at “UAAR” together with the colleague Francesca Vidotto
(physitian) with a controbution titles “Tempo oggettivo e tempo soggettivo:
incontro tra fisica e psicologia del tempo”. Promoting Erasmus
international exchanges during the meeting “Generazione Erasmus a
Confronto” on October 24th 2019 at the Department of General Psychology,
University of Padova, Italy. In 2019 I have also taught “Neuropsychology”
at Fondazione Università adulti/anziani di Camisano Vicentino (Vicenza
Italy) for the elderly. The Fondazione provides free courses for the elderly.
In 2021 I was intervied by the BoLive to discuss how time perception changes
in virtual reality environment (“Il tempo vola nella realtà virtuale”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2SI3wmGk3Y&t=2s). In 2024 I was speaker at
“Il tempo nello sport, il tempo per riflettere” part of a sereis of
conference aimed at discussion the importance of the conceprt of time in
sport. Also in 2024, I gave a talk at “L'Universo in tutti i sensi”
festival of astronomy every year dedicated to different topic, specifically
the year I have contribuited it was dedicated to understanding the effect of
time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-BEIIcFs-U&t=3s). The paper Micillo et
al. (2024) I have co-autored has been selected by Science Journal for Kids as
relevant paper to be adapted for kids and teachers
(https://www.sciencejournalforkids.org/articles/why-is-a-sense-of-community-so-important-for-our-well-being/).
I presented the aim of the pilot during the edition 2025 of the Science4all,
“L'agorà delle scienze” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VNwkrFoxK8).
