Music Ensemble receives the 2026 SIPS Commendation

The Music Ensemble research project, led by the Department of General Psychology at the University of Padua, has received the 2026 SIPS Commendation, an award presented by the Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science (SIPS) to initiatives and projects that make a significant contribution to its mission of improving the quality, methods, and practices of psychological research.

The Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science brings together researchers committed to developing more rigorous and transparent research practices in psychological science. As part of the 2026 SIPS Awards, the Commendation aims to recognize projects that actively support these goals and contribute to the advancement of the field.

Music Ensemble is one of the first multi-lab studies conducted in the psychological and neuroscientific sciences. The project involved 35 research groups across 16 countries and 115 researchers, creating a large-scale international collaboration.

The study collected data from over 1,400 participants, including 700 expert musicians and 700 non-musicians, with the aim of investigating differences between the two groups across a range of dimensions, including cognitive processes, personality traits, and demographic characteristics.

The 2026 SIPS Commendation recognizes both the scientific contributions of Music Ensemble and the collaborative research model on which the project was built, highlighting its role in promoting more robust and collaborative research practices.
